About
Sustainability
Jamberoo Action Park believes in sustainability and we actively support this through biodiversity, vegetation and water management initiatives.
BIODIVERSITY
The park is situated on a privately-owned site, protecting almost 40 hectares of subtropical rainforest near the Illawarra escarpment. This site helps protect a variety of species, including but not limited to the endangered Illawarra Socketwood and Scrub Turpentine flora.
The park also actively controls introduced species such as Lantana and Tobacco bush, helping reduce the harmful effects of these on the native environment.
Additionally, the park grounds are the home to many native species of fauna, including but not limited to Kookaburras, Magpies, Wood and Pacific Black Ducks, Bower Birds, Echidna, Wombats, Wallabies, Native Bees, Parakeets, Black Cockatoo and Wedge Tailed Eagles.
Native Vegetation
Over our 45+ years of operation, we have literally planted hundreds of thousands of native trees and shrubs. By choosing to plant local native species, we create a more sustainable and vibrant environment that benefits the planet and our guests in several ways:
Carbon Offset and Air Quality
Native trees and plants naturally capture and store atmospheric carbon dioxide, helping to offset our operational carbon footprint and mitigate climate change. The plants actively filter pollutants from the air, contributing to improved air quality for our guests and the surrounding community.
Wildlife Habitat
Native plants are perfectly adapted to the Illawarra region, providing crucial food, shelter, and nesting sites for birds, insects, and small mammals.
The park also actively controls introduced species such as Lantana and Tobacco bush, helping reduce the harmful effects of these on the native environment.
Water Conservation and Soil Health
Australian native plants are naturally drought-tolerant and require significantly less water and maintenance than exotic species, conserving a precious resource.
The deep root systems of native vegetation help to stabilize soil and reduce erosion, which is vital for maintaining the health of our park’s water catchment areas.
Shade, Comfort and Resilience
Our native tree canopy provides extensive, natural shade throughout the park, offering a cooler, more comfortable experience for guests on hot days.
The use of indigenous species creates a unique and beautiful landscape that connects the park to the rich, natural heritage of the Jamberoo Valley and the surrounding rainforest textures, as noted in the design of precincts like Velocity Falls.
Due to their local adaptation, native species are more resistant to regional pests and climatic extremes, ensuring a healthy, flourishing landscape year after year.
Water management and control

Jamberoo Action Park practices 100% water recycling, meaning we do not use any town water supply. All water is collected from natural rainfall runoff in five on-site dams, filtered, treated, and then used for rides, drinking, and gardens. Used water from rides and amenities is treated and recycled, with treated water from bathrooms even used as natural fertiliser. The park also minimises loss through practices like watering gardens early, using mulch, and monitoring water levels to prevent overflow.
